Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, visited the Army High Command in Abuja.

The visit was prompted by allegations made on social media by Nigerian Army female personnel, Ruth Ogunleye, accusing her superiors of subjecting her to sexual harassment.

Ohanenye, made this known in a statement on her X handle on Friday, January 19.

She wrote: “Pursuant to my earlier resolve to wade into the matter involving a Nigerian Army female personnel by the name Ruth Ogunleye who alleged on social media that she was subjected to sexual harassment by her superiors, I visited the Army High Command in Abuja today.

“During the visit, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja gave a detailed update on the efforts the Army has put in place towards resolving the matter. He also provided documented evidence showing the lady’s salary was never suspended and that she was paid up to December last year alongside her other colleague.

“He also directed some senior officers to accompany her to where the lady was undergoing rehabilitation before they could commence an investigation into her allegations.

“I interacted with Miss Ogunleye and gave her strong assurances that my Ministry will continue to monitor the situation and optimistic that the outcome will be fine.”
