A mechanic, Ameachi Bernard, last Thursday allegedly kidnapped a 16-year-old girl in Iye-Ekiti, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Èkiti State, around 8 O’ clock in the evening.

The suspected Kidnapper, a mechanic by profession, who rented a piece of land in Oke-Iye along Obada/Iludun Road in Iye-Ekiti, kept the kidnapped girl in the house of his landlady said to have travelled about a month ago.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the kidnapped girl was playing with her younger sister in front of their house when the incident happened in the evening.

In a telephone interview, father of the victim, Segun Adeyeye, who confirmed the incident, said that the suspected kidnapper who happened to be a neighbour, used the phone of the kidnapped girl to call him around 12:00 midnight, demanding a ransom of 30 million naira.

He explained that immediately the incident filtered into the air, both residents and police swung into action, but the suspect escaped, while his clothes were discovered on the ground.

The victim, Testimony Adeyeye, is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in the town.

Radio Nigeria Progress FM gathered that the victim was beaten by the abductor while shouting for help.

Police have since arrested the wife of the suspected kidnapper, while residents of the local government area have expressed the hope that the Ekiti State Police Command would conduct thorough investigation into the incident.
