Current Economic Challenges Predates Tinubu’s Administration – Mutfwang

Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has said that the current economic challenges bedvilling the country predates the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Mutfwang, who stated this on Tuesday in Jos, while addressing youth leaders, said that the nation’s economy was already on its knees when Tinubu took over.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Samuel Jatau, lauded Plateau youths for opting out of the planned protest tagged #EndBadGovernance”.

Mutfang, who said that he was aware of the hardship, urged the youths to be patient with the government.

Mutfwang stated that his administration had initiated some strategies to cushion the negative effects of the hardship.

He said that his administration had increased student scholarships by 300 per cent and backdated it to 2016.

“We brought metro buses and ensured that each drop, no matter the distance, is N200. We also introduced shuttle trains, all in a bid to alleviate the sufferings of the people.

“However, I want all of you to understand that the challenges predate the current federal government and they cannot be solved all in one day.

“Peaceful protests have a thin line to turn into crises, and we must avoid protests. If you allow it to happen, it means taking the hand of the clock backwards,” the governor said.

The Chief of Staff to the governor, Jeremiah Satmak, who also addressed the youth, said agriculture was the mainstay of any developing state.

Satmak stated that the state government would turn the state green through agriculture and create wealth for the people.

The chief of staff stated that a new Plateau with a new orientation was possible.

According to him, youths were instrumental in taking the state to its desired destination.

He urged the youths to jettison protest and tow the part of dialogue, adding that dialogue gave better results than crises.

The Acting Chairman, Plateau Youth Council (PYC), Yakubu Itse, said they would continue to dialogue with fellow youths and ensure that nobody protested.

Itse said that PYC, an umbrella body of youths in the state, did not know the faceless persons organising protests, adding that they would not follow them blindly.
