The Lagos State Government has launched a groundbreaking Health Insurance Scheme (HIS) aimed at ensuring universal access to quality healthcare for its residents.

The State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, led the launch on Tuesday, emphasizing the scheme’s significance in bridging the healthcare gap and promoting overall well-being.

Also, the commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, highlighted the key provisions and goals of the transformative policy.

He said, β€œThe initiative aligns with the objective of the National Health Insurance Authority Act 2022 – making State level social health insurance mandatory to achieve Universal Health Coverage, UHC.

β€œSocial health insurance, universally practised in various forms, has numerous socioeconomic benefits. It pools contributory funds and spreads risk across a large group, minimizing individual financial exposure and enhancing protection.” Abayomi stated.

Governor Sanwo-Olu assured a phased implementation, ensuring a seamless transition and maximum impact.

This innovative initiative positions Lagos as a pioneer in healthcare reform, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.

“Healthcare is a fundamental human right, and we’re committed to making it accessible to all Lagosians.” – Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos Health Insurance Scheme marks a significant milestone in the state’s healthcare journey, promising a brighter, healthier future for its residents.
