President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), effective March 7, 2025.

This appointment comes after a rigorous selection process involving Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service

Ogunjimi, 57, was initially named as the successor to the incumbent AGF, Oluwatoyin Madehin, in December.

The selection committee chose him through a competitive, merit-based process that included a written assessment, ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.

According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, “The selection process underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions”

Ogunjimi boasts an impressive academic background, graduating from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy.

He also holds a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. Additionally, he is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment, urging him to “discharge his duties in the service of Nigeria with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to Nigeria’s service”
