PDP CRIES FOUL OVER COURT RULING, SAYS JUDGMENT CAN’T STOP ITS CONVENTION

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which halted its planned national convention, describing the judgment as an “assault on Nigeria’s democratic process.”

In a statement issued on October 31, 2025, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the opposition party insisted that the decision of the court, presided over by Justice Kolawole Omotosho, does not invalidate its preparations for the convention scheduled to elect new national officers.

According to the PDP, the judgment “does not vitiate” its ability to carry on with the internal processes leading to the convention, stressing that the Supreme Court had previously affirmed the supremacy of political parties in managing their internal affairs.

“The judgment of the court does not vitiate our ability to proceed with the processes and activities towards the National Convention to elect new National Officers to pilot the affairs of the Party for the next four years,” the statement read.

The PDP also urged its members, chapters, and organs across the country to remain focused on preparations for the convention despite the court’s ruling.

While maintaining that it remains committed to the rule of law, the party disclosed that it has instructed its legal team to immediately appeal the judgment, describing the ruling as an attempt to undermine Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

The PDP reiterated its commitment to defending and promoting multi-party democracy in the country, vowing that no “judicial ambush” would derail its internal democratic processes.
