Member of the House of Representatives, Blessing Onuh (APC–Benue), has raised alarm over the rising wave of killings, kidnappings, and destruction of farmlands across her constituency and other parts of Benue State.

Speaking with journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, the lawmaker representing Otukpo–Ohimini Federal Constituency described the situation as “a national emergency” that requires urgent federal intervention.

“I am really pained and frustrated; how can I continue to move motions on insecurity without a sustained response?” she lamented. “Yes, sometimes when I cry out, the security agencies will respond, but as soon as they retreat, my people are attacked and gruesomely killed.”

Onuh revealed that a large portion of her personal resources now goes into medical bills and funeral expenses for victims, stressing that the attacks have become more frequent and brutal.

She narrated that most of the armed criminals launch their operations from Otukpo town into surrounding villages, leaving trails of death and destruction.

“The killings in my constituency have reached an outrageous level. We witness senseless murder of innocent people on a daily basis, and tragically, it is beginning to feel as though it is normal,” she said.

Onuh appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct the service chiefs and heads of security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending the perpetrators and restoring peace.

She further warned that persistent violence has forced many farmers to flee their lands, posing a grave threat to food security in the region.

The lawmaker also urged youths in affected communities to avoid reprisal attacks, promising continued engagement with security agencies and political leaders to find lasting peace.
