KEBBI MASS ABDUCTION: GOVERNOR SAYS SECURITY WITHDREW ‘MINUTES BEFORE ATTACK,’ CALLS IT SABOTAGE OF THE HIGHEST ORDER

Kebbi State was thrown into outrage on Monday night after Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris openly accused security agencies of sabotaging state efforts, following the massacre and mass abduction at Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu LGA. Suspected terrorists stormed the school at dawn, killing Vice Principal Hassan Yakubu Makuku and kidnapping 25 female students. Three managed to escape.

The governor, who arrived at the scene shortly before 7pm, was visibly furious as he confirmed that the DSS had earlier issued a clear warning that the school was under imminent threat. According to him, the DSS urged an emergency Security Council meeting and recommended full-time deployment to protect the girls. The state complied. Yet, despite the intelligence, the terrorists walked in almost unchallenged.

Governor Idris accused unnamed security operatives of abandoning their posts, revealing that heavily armed personnel deployed to guard the school spent the previous night taking photographs with the students, only to withdraw barely 30 minutes before the attackers arrived.

He described the situation as “clear sabotage,” recalling how similar failures to act on intelligence led to the infamous 2020 Kankara school abduction in Katsina State. He announced the formation of a special investigative panel headed by the DSS director in the state, insisting that he wants to know why an attack that was predicted still succeeded.

One of the teachers who narrowly escaped said the presence of armed men the previous night made the attack even more shocking. He confirmed that the security team conducted drills with the students and appeared prepared, only to mysteriously leave before daybreak.

Authorities now believe the students were taken alive, not killed, and government sources say ongoing operations may lead to their rescue. But the governor’s accusations have deepened public anger, fueling suspicion that someone within the security architecture may have allowed the terrorists a clear path.
