The South West Governors Forum has approved the creation of a South West Security Fund to support coordinated security operations across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states.

The decision was reached at a meeting held on Tuesday in Ibadan. The fund will be managed by the Special Advisers on Security from all six states, who are expected to meet monthly to review security reports and measure progress.

The governors also agreed to launch a digital security and intelligence sharing platform that will allow the states to exchange real time information on threats, attacks, suspicious movements, emergency alerts and other security incidents.

According to the forum, the initiatives are aimed at improving rapid response capability, strengthening inter-state collaboration and ensuring that criminals can no longer escape by crossing state boundaries.

The fund is expected to support patrols, equipment procurement, training and operational logistics for regional security outfits. The governors said the new system will enhance intelligence gathering, improve community safety and provide a more coordinated approach to tackling insecurity in the region.
