A 35-year-old habitual rapist, Wilson Sunday, has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly raping five minors aged between eight and fourteen in Bachure, Yola North Local Government Area.

According to the spokesperson of the command, SP Yahaya Nguroje, the suspect, who resided in Damilu, Yola North, committed the crime starting from January 2023 and continued thereafter.

Nguroje stated that the suspect lured the victims into uncompleted buildings away from public view, taking advantage of them while they were on their way to or from school.

The incident was reported to the Divisional Police headquarters in Kofare by the parents of the victims, who had noticed the suspect’s unwholesome practice.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a father of two and currently living alone after separating from his wife.

It was also discovered that he had previously been convicted for a similar offense.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, expressed concern over the incident and instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the investigation and ensure diligent prosecution.

In a separate incident, the police arrested 22-year-old Raphael Peter from Bulabuli in Michika Local Government Area for raping an 18-year-old student.

SP Yahaya Nguroje advised the public, especially parents, to be vigilant in protecting their children from criminals who are seeking to take advantage of them. He urged anyone with information about individuals of suspicious character to report them to the police.

Nguroje also called on the general public, particularly parents, to support the command’s fight against all forms of gender-based violence (GBV) and assured that perpetrators would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
