Police Arrest 3 suspects for Killing 85-year-old

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the death of an 85-year-old man, Awe Taiwo, on his farm in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the arrest on Monday, stating that the suspects allegedly macheted the octogenarian and carted away his tubers of yam in his farm located in Ipole-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

He added that the suspects, identified as Damilola, Segun, and Tunde, specialize in attacking farmers and stealing their farm produce.

The PPRO said, “During interrogation, the suspects confessed that on 12/07/2023 at about 1700hrs, they went to the complainant’s farm situated off Iyin-Ado Express Road, Iyin-Ekiti, attacked him with a machete and carted away some tubers of yam.

“They further confessed that on 27/06/2023, they entered another farm settlement at Ipole-Ekiti where one Awe Taiwo Julius ‘m’ was inflicted with serious injuries and ten tubers of yam were carted away in the process.

The 85-year-old victim later died while receiving treatment at Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.

“The stolen yam tubers were recovered, while efforts are still on-going to arrest other members of the gang now at large.”

Abutu revealed that the suspects would soon be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.
