Ammaari Musa Semwogerere, a newly appointed magistrate in Uganda, was arrested and discharged for dressing up as a woman to sit for examinations for his fiancΓ©e at the Law Development Centre (LDC), Lira in Uganda.

According to local media, Semwogerere was elevated to Magistrate Grade One on probation by the country’s Judicial Service Commission two weeks ago.

Semwogerere, alias Mukisa Anthony, was caught red-handed on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, while preparing an examination for his girlfriend, a Bar Course student named Irene Mutonyi, at the Law Development Centre (LDC) Lira Campus.

The incident was reported to police by campus authorities, and the suspect was detained and charged with two charges of forgery and one act of impersonation.

He appeared before the Lira Chief Magistrate on Friday, July 28, and was sent to jail until August 3, 2023.

According to LDC director, Frank Nigel Othembi, Semwogerere’s offence violated Section 351 of the Penal Code Act and Impersonation violated Section 381 of the Penal Code Act.

Following the event, the Judiciary issued a statement removing Semwogerere from his new position.

β€œThe Judiciary would like to inform the public that Mr. Semwogerere Ammaari Musa, one of the newly recruited Magistrates will not be employed into the Judiciary Service,” says part of the letter.
