Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has begun official duties less than 24 hours after he returned from a 3-month medical vacation abroad.

This was contrary to speculations that the governor was going to spend some days to rest in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, before writing to the Assembly.

Akeredolu officially informed the Assembly less than 24 hours after his arrival that he had assumed duties.

He performed his official duties by signing a bill creating 33 local council development areas into law.

The bill was passed by the House of Assembly while the governor was on vacation.

Sources said it was not presented before the Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, because of the need to appoint caretaker chairmen for the new councils.

It was gathered that Governor Akeredolu would announce caretaker committees for the newly-created councils this week.

There are also fears among some exco members of Akeredolu that they might be dropped owing to the roles they played during his absence.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said they hoped the governor would empower and structure the party against those he termed β€œAbuja APC chieftains”.

The chieftain, who pleaded anonymity, said some supposed APC leaders from Ondo State had been holding meetings for the purpose of presenting that they were powerful force in the state before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said the absence of Akeredolu in the last three months created a void that must be reinforced.

A top aide of the governor said governorship aspirants of the APC would begin their campaign activities that were put on hold.
