Argentina World Cup Winner Handed 2-Year Ban for Doping

Argentina World Cup winner, Alejandro Papu’ Gomez, has been handed a 2-year ban for failing a drug test after he reportedly took his children’s sickness syrup in the build-up to the tournament.

Gomez won the mundial last December following a dramatic penalty shoot out victory against France in the final.

The Daily Mail reported that it emerged that Gomez failed a test for a prohibited substance shortly before the World Cup got underway in November, 2022.

He blamed the failed test on taking his children’s sick syrup without consulting with Sevilla’s doctors after having a bad night’s sleep.

However, this reason was not deemed acceptable for him to avoid a ban.

He must now decide whether he wishes to appeal the verdict in an attempt to get his ban reduced or overturned.
