Breaking News: Lagos Assembly Speaker Obasa Impeached amidst corruption allegations

In an unexpected dramatic turn of events, Lagos Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa has been impeached by 32 members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

This development comes on the heels of mounting allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement against the speaker.

According to reports, Obasa’s impeachment was a result of his gross misconduct and abuse of office.

The embattled speaker has been accused of spending a staggering N17 billion on a gate to the assembly complex, a move critics have labeled as excessive and fraudulent.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had been petitioned to investigate Obasa for alleged financial misconduct, breach of public trust, and abuse of office.

In response to the allegations, Obasa had dismissed them as unfounded and politically motivated. However, the sheer weight of evidence and the outcry from the public seem to have ultimately led to his downfall.

In the aftermath of Obasa’s impeachment, Mojisola Meranda, the Deputy Speaker, has been elected to replace him.

Meranda, representing Apapa Constituency 1, has been a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly for three consecutive legislatures.
