An undergraduate at the Ebonyi State University, Ebube Akah, has lost his life after a convoy of the state governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, crushed him to death last week♦.

“Ebube was killed alongside a commercial motorcyclist he was riding with in Abakaliki on 1 December,” according to PREMIUM TIMES.

It quoted the deceased student’s elder brother, Isidore Akah, as disclosing on Friday that the tragic incident occurred on Friday, 1 December, in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

Isidore Akah, the online paper said, was accusing the police of cover-up of his brother’s death.

“The governor’s ride that went for school runs for the governor’s children, knocked down Ebube with the bike man, and they both died instantly,” it quoted him as saying in a telephone interview.

He disclosed that Augustina Ogbodo, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, met with members of the Akah family on Monday, but no action has been taken regarding the accident.

“The commissioner of police in Ebonyi State is aware of this, but she’s playing to the government’s tune,” Isidore Akah told PREMIUM TIMES.

The paper quoted police spokesperson in Ebonyi State, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, as confirming the incident.

“Ebonyi governor, Mr Nwifuru, did not respond to calls and an SMS sent to his mobile phone as of the time of filing this report.

“Also, Mr Nwifuru’s media aide, Monday Uzor, did not respond to phone calls or an SMS sent to his mobile phone,” the report said.
