Ondo APC Primary: Group urges Party to Unite Aggrieved Members

A group operating under the banner of Ilaje for Governor Campaign has issued a plea to the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress to address all conflicts stemming from the primary election held last Saturday.

Reports indicate that tensions have flared within the party, following the governorship primary, which took place across the state’s 18 local government areas.

Some aspirants have lodged complaints with the party regarding the conduct and outcome of the primary.

At least, five aspirants of the party have filed petitions with the APC Primary Election Committee, chaired by former Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar.

The aspirants include Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, Gbenga Edema, Wale Akinterinwa, Jimi Odimayo, and Mrs Funke Omogoroye.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had emerged victorious in the primary election, amassing a total of 48,569 votes to defeat 15 other contenders.

The primary was overseen by the APC Primary Election Committee, led by Kogi State governor, Usman Ododo.

The convener of the group, Malumi Samuel, issued a statement on Wednesday, urging the party’s leadership, as well as its members, particularly the unsuccessful aspirants, to prioritize reconciliation and unity ahead of the gubernatorial election scheduled for November this year.

Samuel emphasized the critical importance of presenting a united front in the forthcoming election, stressing that a divided party would be detrimental to its chances.

He called on party members to come together and collaborate harmoniously.

While extending congratulations to Governor Aiyedatiwa on his victory, the group implored him to extend a hand of fellowship to all aggrieved aspirants and party members, both for the upcoming election and for the continued development of the S
state.

In the statement, Samuel remarked, “This victory is a collective achievement; there are no losers here. Governor Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated himself as a unifier and a capable administrator.

“His triumph reflects the aspirations of party members, and it is imperative that we unite to fulfil our objectives in November.

“I am heartened by the transparent conduct of the primary election held to select our party’s gubernatorial candidate last Saturday. Even more commendable is the decorum exhibited by our members and party stakeholders.

“This is emblematic of progressive ideals, and we commend the governor for his victory. It’s now time for all aspirants and stakeholders within the party to join forces as we embark on this crucial mission to advance the cause of Ondo State. This is what our state urgently needs for its rejuvenation and sustained growth.”
