In Katsina State’s Dandume Local Government Area, a tragic incident unfolded on Sunday night around 8:00 pm, resulting in the loss of two lives and abduction of an unspecified number of people by terrorists.

These attackers, armed with automatic weapons, arrived in the area on motorcycles.

The victims of this horrifying incident included a man and a woman, while several individuals sustained injuries while attempting to escape from the armed gunmen.

Dandume Local Government Area is one of several regions in the state grappling with security challenges.

This situation is exacerbated by the presence of an extensive forest reserve near the council, stretching for many kilometers into neighbouring states.

The forest reserve frequently serves as a hiding place for terrorists, where they plan their unlawful activities and hold their kidnapped victims.

A resident of the council, identified as Aminu, said such attacks were unfortunately common, especially during the rainy season.

He urged the government and security agencies to intervene and assist them.

Aminu mentioned that the deceased individuals would be laid to rest on Monday morning, adding that there was expectation that the terrorists would contact the families of those abducted, likely demanding a ransom.

The state’s Police command spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, stated that he would provide further information when details of the attack became available.

Katsina is the home state of Nigeria’s immediate past president, Muhammadu Buhari.
